Marwan Makhoul

In order for me to write poetry that isn't political,
I must listen to the birds

Marwan Makhoul was born to a Palestinian father and a Lebanese mother in 1979 in the village of Boquai'a in the Upper Galilee region of Palestine. He currently lives in the village of Maalot Tarshiha. Marwan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Al-Mustaqbal College and now works as a civil engineer and is the director of a construction company.
His first book of poetry was published in 2007 in both Beirut and Baghdad by Al-Jamal Publishers. That same year a second edition of the book was published in Haifa by Maktabat Kul Shai' Publishers. A third edition of that same book was published in Cairo in 2012. In 2009 he won the prize of best playwright in The Acre Theatre Festival for his first play. Selections from his poetry have been translated into English, Turkish, Italian, German, French, Hebrew and Serbian.
